One of the fantastic things about Hermanus is that although it is a small town it has a city-like infrastructure. There are restaurants, boutiques, hospitals and a myriad of sports facilities. Below is some useful information for visitors from abroad.
Most banking groups are represented in Hermanus and most of them have foreign exchange facilities. Autobank machines are available in the central business district. Most international credit cards are accepted, as are travellers cheques, provided they are in an acceptable currency. The currency units are Rands (R) and Cents (c). R1 is equal to 100 cents. Coins: R5, R2, R1, 50c, 20c, 10c and 5c. Notes are issued in the following denominations: R200, R100, R50, R20 and R10.
Hermanus enjoys a mild climate. Winter, although the rainy season, has nonetheless many sunny days and is generally mild, with high winds at times. Summer is dry and sunny, with extreme heat tempered by sea breezes. Early autumn (March) is idyllic, with balmy days and late afternoon sea mists – the so-called Hermanus “champagne air”.
